More about this scene

The stone-fronted houses match the shops with their sturdiness and `built to last` qualities. Slightly superior to many factory houses, with their small gardens, the terrace on the right has a dated stone on the second house: `Built in the year of AD 1897 Victoria`s Reign`. Its first house, Green Bank, is bigger than the rest and has a bay window, being built for a mill manager or the owner of the row. Stone sett paths and some flagstone walls dividing the back yards still remain today behind the stone terraces to both left and right.

My Street
The two houses shown here are 100 (Holmes family and 102 (Russell family. I lived at 106 (Evans). I have the picture in my old family album

Happy Days
hi diane i too lived around duchess street & began my working life at 87 duchess st the butchers & greengrocers owned by geof n kath garlick around 1974ish i also remember we would go digging for antique bottles at the back of the shop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HAPPY DAYS

Proud To Have Come From Shaw
I think to reminisce is great. At 76, I find myself doing this quite often and am drawn back to Shaw, and to High Crompton, where I was born. The house I was born in on Rochdale Road, near the Bull's Head Pub, is still standing. Just like cars, houses were built out of solid materials in those days!. Mellow Street Wash Brook Chadderton
I grew up in chadderton born in 1945 mellow street then moves to Leslie ave bus driver with Oldham Corp then to Canada played drums in a oldham band in the 60s toured with the Hollies Kinks Moody Blues as a back up group they where The Deltas trying to find Bob Higgins our bass player plus looking for a EP we made also played with D&TheDa,s played in the Bulls Head in Oldham looking for ...see more

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
