More about this scene
Frith's photographer was looking back through the carriageway towards Church Street straight ahead. These long timber-framed ranges remain, the space between now filled with pub tables and benches, while the rear of the yard is now the hotel car park. To the right is now a 1990s extension to the Methodist church of 1839.
