David Jacobs

A Memory of Streatham.

oh remember that business bottom of Leigham Court Road. used to look in whilst waiting for the bus 137 home, both Belltrees Grove and Valleyfield road. as we moved to Belltrees... quite a few actors/actresses lived in Streatham as we had the Theatre there as well.. we had a lot in the town, it was great.. didnt need to go up to London unless it was special shows up here!!! Even remember having plays in the Rookery!

My Aunt, Marjorie used to help a Mrs. Jacobs with housework etc. She was the wife of David Jacobs who was on the BBC. They lived in The High. Mrs Jacobs gave my aunt one of David Jacob's old dressing gowns and she gave it to me - I still have it! I keep it like a memento. My aunt was also housekeeper for Syd Buckman who was lead cornetist in Roy Fox's band. Also she did work for the Fox's and C;lem Bernard, his pianist. You are right there were quit lot of show biz people in that district. I taught piano to Harry Dawson's daughter, Lesley and Cal McCord's wife who lived in the area. I remember Streatham with great affection. I now live in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
Cheers! Marjorie Davidson-Smith
