So many memories i don't know where to begin! I remember learning to ride at New Park Road Stables. The wooden stairs going up to the office above the stalls to book in. Hello Ken, You may remember us, the Beaven boys at number 71 or 72 (Parents Name Collins). I was born in 1945, Stephen in 1940 and Michael 1936. I went to the lovely Eardley Road Primary school before we moved to Clapham in 1954. Its now a nursery I believe. My Uncle was one of 12. They lived at 18 Madeira Road. His name is Ralph Tucker. He remembers meeting his wife of 63 years at a dance school in Streatham High Road, it was above Burtons Menswear and near Streatham Police Station. Great memories of Streatham. I was born and brought up in Streatham and just wondered if anyone remembers a big food store back in the1970’s called “Internationals”? I too remember Gadsbys the art/gift shop - so interesting to look at everything in there. I also went to Estreham school in the 50’s. It was Miss Best the music teacher, Mrs Farrant for PE. There was also Mr Cheek, Mr Martin and the headmaster was Mr Grey. Mr Hammer was the headmaster of Penwortham junior school, situated between the two floors of Estreham. My name in those days was Marion Chapman and my best friends were Anne Smallridge and Rose Everett.
I lived in Becmead Avenue, my maiden name was Montgomery. My sister and I went to St. Leonards School from 1955, Mr Stewart was headmaster, and I remember Mrs Morrison and Mr. Keeling. Streatham had Saturday morning pictures and as we got older, the ice-rink and Locarno. All the old stores, Pratts and Sharmans with its pod system sending money around. I lived at 4 Bungalow ,Christchurch Road which was a prefab Next to the prefab was an old victorian house occupied by the Knights Youth Club I belonged to the cubs at Christ Church A crowd of us used to go to Saturday morning pictures at the Regal cinema. I lived with my aunt and uncle in crosman house? New park rd in 1950.Went to new park rd. School.Had a friend called Bobby Marshall.Left to go and live with my dad after 11plus. Mel Marsh.
I remember being taken to see Christmas panto at the Odeon with mum and dad and Herman's Hermits were one of the acts, also getting up on stage with other kids to get Cadbury's Roses from compere Norman Vaughan, must have been late sixties I guess.
I attended St Andrew's School in Polworth Road, Streatham, from 1951 to c. 1957. I can't say I enjoyed my time there. My mom told me that on my first day at the school I bawled my eyes out and couldn't be consoled. The teacher was a Ms Walters. I hasten to say that I don't think she could be blamed for my tears.
