Streatham 1955 1982

A Memory of Streatham.

I lived in Becmead Avenue, my maiden name was Montgomery. My sister and I went to St. Leonards School from 1955, Mr Stewart was headmaster, and I remember Mrs Morrison and Mr. Keeling. Streatham had Saturday morning pictures and as we got older, the ice-rink and Locarno. All the old stores, Pratts and Sharmans with its pod system sending money around. I got married in St. Leonards Church in 1972, eventually moved to Cornwall in 1982. The secondary we went to was Ensham in Tooting. Went back about 4 years ago and hardly recognised the area. Sadly did not get a chance to spend much time, must try and get back soon.

Lovely to hear from you Graham. I now live in Cornwall, have spent just under 50 years Nursing mainly in London but later here in Cornwall. Very best wishes to you. Jeanette
Hi Jeanette, I have tried to go through names, there was a Mrs Fowler (bit scary) Mrs or Miss Cummings (very tiny smiled from ear to ear). The kids names that stuck are as follows: Derek Maxwell Julian Mosely Duncan Bruce Andrew Baumont John Hooper Glynis Pratt a coloured boy who got so much stick. The girls Margret Lockwood and Arleen Arbour. Any of these names ring a bell?
Hi Jeanette, 19bengrar49@gmail.com. This is my Email address
Hello Graham, I remember Mrs Fowler and also a Mrs Morrison who I happened to bump into some years later and thought 'gosh ! you have not aged a bit' ! however this was of course as children all adults were 'old' !! I remember my friend Janice Hinchcliffe and often wondered what became of her. The names Glynis Pratt and Margaret Lockwood ring a bell but not sure of the others.
Hi Jeanette, unwell Thursday just 2 weeks after my operation. Remember doctor saying we are not sure what we are going to do. However, you need to relax! Frightened no with 4 doctors and loads of nurses around me with my legs strapped in the air. I'v never been so scared. So you remember Glynis & Margaret. Margaret was my first girlfriend, whenever we were outside the school grounds we had to hold hands boy girl boy girl. Margaret pushed other girls away if they tried to hold my hand. Puppy love! I liked that girl, I remember the first time my mum saw her, she said that blue & white frock of hers was big enough to fit me. I wonder what happened to her? I trust that we can continue writing to one another. I have to ask how is your sister? If you wish you can reach me by E mail 19bengrar49@gmail.com Hope we can be friends! bye for now Graham
