16a - a Memory of Tilehurst.

Hazel, was no 16a above a bank? Because in 1948 I'm sure there was a family called Bibbins living there. Maybe this was before or after you were there.

Yes it was the Bibbins. The place was Dickensian. Gaslights, no bathroom, and rat infested because of Rules bakery next door. Often see my grandmother chasing them with a broom.
In 1950 we were eventually moved to Beverley Rd......heaven

Tips & Ideas

Not sure what to write? It's easy - just think of an important place in your life and ask yourself:

  • How does it feature in your personal history?
  • What are your best memories of this place?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How does it feel, seeing these places again?
  • Do you remember stories about the community, its history and people?
