More about this scene
The new W H Smith building, near left, had replaced the bank since 1926. On the other side of the road the Great George has its familiar and rather curious two-sided sign— it has George Bernard Shaw and George Washington on it. On the opposite corner of Monk Street the agricultural merchants has gone, to be replaced by the new South Wales Electricity Board building.
