More about this scene
After Henry VIII's dissolu- tion of the monasteries in 1542, the Priory Chapel became St Mary's Parish Church. The wide porch and twin gabled west front were part of Thomas Nicholson's restoration of 1881-82. The more recent road sign was no doubt meant to ensure free access to the church for weddings and funerals.
