Goodhall Street.
A Memory of Acton.
dear helen, searching for info on the bromyard avenue school i came across your piece about goodhall street. everyone who lived in stephenson street, goodhall street, and old oak lane cottages, as they were called, had a connection with the railway. my dad was a signalman in the box at willesden junction situated at the end of the cattle dock, opposite the station. just down the road was the tobaccanist shop, called andies. where at the end of the rationing we were able to buy sweets. i went to acton wells school and failed the ll plus, we took it on the day king george died, i thought it must have been an omen!! after acton wells i went to john perryn and also east acton house while the new school was being built in bromyard avenue. we attended those three schools for almost a year. it was opened in september, 1955, and i only attended for the one term and then left to work in the railway office trainiing school situated on euston station, above the great hall. then after six months training i went to work in the accident section in euston house for the railway. the railway cottages were an integral part of life, working for the railway, never to be found anywhere again. i would love to hear from you and learn more of my roots. i married and moved away losing touch with friends, which i bitterly regret. looking forward to hearing from you. anna roberts, nee parker.

My Mum died in 1959 when we lived there
We moved away in 1961
We lived next door to the Barr family
I attended Bromyard school (later called Faraday) 1959 -1965 I used to live in the Vale Flats on the Uxbridge Road past the Ministry of Pensions and cycle to school .I used to sit next to Alan Barr in my class and his mum used to let me leave my bike in their prefab garden as it was safer than the school racks I remember Alan had an older brother but his father did not live there I assumed he had died but it was not discussed .They were a very pleasant family and both boys were very clever. I had no further contact with Alan after I left school but I heard in later years that he was very highly placed in the Levi Jeans company . Who knows we might have seen each other over the fence when I was parking my bike .Hope you are well Cheers Ian
Cheers Ian
