Good Times

A Memory of Addlestone.

Between the years of 1955 and 1963 except for a 2 yr stint in Australia We lived on and off at my grandfathers house at 107 Bourneside Road 2nd house from end of road; as kids we climbed over fence to get to the mill pond for non permit fishing, coxes mill was still functioning, no gentrified housing then, I attended St Augustine’s infant school then St Paul’s secondary, a cousins mother managed Budgens, I had a Saturday job at the green grocers, we used to hang out at the coffee bar, great adult fun 😁 or so we thought! My father worked at express dairy delivering, I’d also help with that at school holidays, Awful hours 😭. One of my school friends Michael Pope at St Paul’s went off to naval boarding school in Hamble Hampshire, sounded like fun to me so my mother Ruth Ramsey applied for me, we were all very poor working class people but she managed to get an educational grant for me which helped with the fees,
They were tough times for all but it was a great childhood full of adventure at the mill pond nearby canal and weir as well as the farm,
I enjoyed reading your story, maybe our paths crossed?
