National Service

A Memory of Alnwick.

I spent my national service 1955/1956 in nearby RAF BOULMER and though many years have passed since i still recall very happy memories of days and nights in Alnwick and of the people there who were some of the nicest friendly people i have ever met before or since. My most vivid memories, seeing i was only 18years old at the time, were of the numerous amount of pubs that could be frequented and i can also bring to mind the cinema which was on the main street due to me dating one of the usherettes that worked there. Finally as my thoughts go back 66 years through the mists of time i recall a corner cafe which was situated near the bus station where us airmen used to gather to chat up the local talent. Many a pleasant hour was spent here and allover Alnwick and like i previously touched on i really have very fond memories of the town and especially the people who lived there.
