Recollections Of Altofts

A Memory of Altofts.

My memories are a bit faded now but I have checked things with my older brothers and they can remember more than me. We were evacuated there during the war. I was born in 1943 and have just celebrated my 70th! My mother met her 2nd husband there and his name was William Henry Griffiths. He was an ex miner and suffered a serious chest condition and only had one lung. After the war we would visit Altofts for a holiday staying at the Griffiths home. I have tried to find the street but could not find it. I think the house was near a railway line. The house and the front garden were separated by the road and the toilet was also across the road! I remember going to the cinema in Wakefield on the bus with my two brothers and spending our return bus fare on sweets and attempted to walk home but got lost and were found by the police and taken back in a police car! Mother was not happy! Does anyone know the Griffiths family? Is the street still there that I remember, with the garden across the road? Sadly, my mother died in 1952 when I was just 9 years old and my step father moved away, I lived with an aunt and uncle. If anyone can help with my questions it would be appreciated.
