Little Church Alverstoke

A Memory of Alverstoke.

I was at Alverstoke Childrens Home as a baby (I remember the hospital within the grounds and the beach being near by) till I left at 16 (1960ish - a Mr Thomas was in charge then).
I remember a boy then named Oliver... playing the organ at the little church (as it was known). I used to sing with the other girls and boys in the choir most Sundays, at weddings etc. If I remember I used to live in the house (can't remember its name). Sister Joyce used to take sermons at the little church. At the far back gate, near what was known as the the little school (my first taste of libraries and reading came from there), near a tennis court where I would attempt tennis with some of the other girls there. It was quite a time growing up there - although not everything was sunshine - I think its because some of us were not quite sure why we there - and why didn't our parents have us living with them? Some of us were bullied at the local school cos we lived at the home.
Probably cos I was infirm ... physically... I have since learnt to deal with life's stuff and grow into who I am today. Why did it close and where did all the not wanted children go since its closure? I await any kind reply from anyone who remembers back then.
