More about this scene
Dr William Stanley Goddard, headmaster of Winchester College, retired to Andover in 1809. In 1840 he engaged a young Portsmouth architect, Augustus F Livesay, and gave £20,000 for rebuilding the parish church. The first service was taken in 1844, but it was not until 1846 that the church was complete. In 1845 Goddard gave his fine Georgian house to the Church as a vicarage. Today it is occupied by a firm of solicitors.
