More about this scene
Near the Wharfe and overlooking the 1592ft Simon's Seat, Appletreewick was the resting place of monks on their journey between Bolton Abbey and Fountains Abbey. Around here there were many lead mines, and the village had two pubs to cater for the miners two hundred years ago. Further up the village is High Hall, built by the Craven family. William Craven later became the Lord Mayor of London; in his later years he came back to this area, when he restored the Hall and rebuilt Burnsall Bridge.
