More about this scene

This view looks southwards along Shawfield Road with two complementary shops on each corner. The Brinkworth Stores, on the right, sold groceries and provisions. It was also the post office, William Brinkworth having been appointed postmaster in 1897. On the opposite side of the road, Hillary's Popular Stores was a draper's and outfitter's, and also sold footwear, postcards, newspapers and toys. It was run by Arthur Hillary, who was a Special Constable and, during the Second World War, an ARP Warden.

Gold Cottages Government Road
my dad Walter James Harrison lived in 2 Gold Cottages, the Stubbs i think on government road its where the fishing lakes are now. his dad Albert Edward Harrison died there in 1936. just trying to find out more about the place back in the day

Beloveded Ash
I ALSO HAVE MANY MEMORIES OF ASH, MY MOTHER WAS A HARMSWORTH BEFORE MARRIAGE,AND MY UNCLE OWENED THE BOATHOUSE AT ASH VALE MY AUNTIE ALICE LIVED IN THE COTTAGE NEXT TO THE BOATHOUSE.I ALSO REMEMBER HEATHVALE BRIDGE AND THE SWAN HOTEL WHEN PEOPLE USED TO PULL IN FOR A DRINK.MY BROTHER ALSO WORKED FOR BILL BUGDEN AND I CAN REMEMBER GOING DOWN TO THE BAKERY AT SIX IN THE MORNING TO PURCHASE BREAD.IF MY MEMORY IS CORRECT ...see more

Childhood Memories. Pat Suckling (Ne Plant)
My grandfather owned a house in Charthouse Road, Ash Vale. It was the last house on the left. My mother grew up in this house along with two brothers and two sisters until she was married. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
