A Memory of Ash Vale.

I had just a few weeks here, June/July 1955, in Mychett Hutments prior to Embarkation to Egypt and subsquently, Cyprus. This was the transit camp for the Royal Army Pay Corps. Memories of the area are now quite vague. However, I do remember having a drink in a nearby Village Pub (can't remember the name). My pals and I were having a quiet chat at the bar. Suddenly a local sitting on a nearby Bar Stool leaped from his seat and started sparring, saying he was in training to fight Sugar Ray Robinson! Apparently, according to mine host, he had been a professional boxer (not very successful) and was punch-drunk. We came back in November of the following year for demob and the only thing I remember from that time was a party of us going up to London to see the show "Kismet".
Happy days !
Would love to hear from any one who remembers the place as it was then.
