County School, Ashford

A Memory of Ashford.

My time at the County School must have been from 1947 until 1951, when I left, to become a trainee Draughtsman at the British Thermostat, in Sunbury
I too remember Mr Phillips, who I thought was very formidable, until he became my Maths master, when I began to like him, as he was quite humorous
His lunchtime picture shows in the science lab I do remember, particularly cartoon day.
Mrs Phillips, his wife , became Headmistress, and I remember her hair being being plaited and coiled over her ears, like headphones.
Earlier on, my Maths master was Mr Morgan, who, if I remember correctly, was quite accurate when throwing a piece of chalk at any offending pupil !
Headmaster at the time was Mr Adams, with his deputy, I believe, was Mr Berens.
I too played a few Hockey matches in goal, but the protection worn was pretty poor!!
During my stay at CSA,as it was, the name was changed to CGSA County GRAMMAR School Ashford.
Didn't do very well here, as on passing the 11 +, I should really have gone to somewhere like Twickenham Tech.
