I do not actually remember Auchterarder as I was there for only six months as an evacuee in 1939 from September to March 1940 when we went home and I was one year old. However, I was the youngest of seven children and the stories of that time were related many times over the years by my mother and older brothers and sisters. My husband was born in Rosemount - his grandfather's house above his grocery shop in the High Street. His family lived in Auchterarder or Blackford; cousins were Eadie's who ran the bakery, and John Gilmour, the coal merchant who lived in Zona. My father in law was a scratch golfer - holding the course record at Auchterarder golf club.
I, with my three brothers and mother, lived for a while in an apartment near the top end of the town. My father was in the Argyle and Sutherland's. Later we moved out of town to a house called 'Pothill' where my mother was dairymaid and general farm worker. The house was was, I think, just North on the Perth road.
