Aveley is a small village situated a few miles to the east of Rainham and close to the Thames and Essex Marshes.The parked bicycles on the right, no cars to be seen and the crowd waiting for the bus speak of a vanished era.The village is now a stone's throw from the M25 and the new Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, shattering the former peace.

I was in the same class as Yvonne - Libby - Jayne Patience - Keith - Jeff Lewis - Martin Price - I remember John Havis, Peter Bell, Alan Tubby, Gaye, Carole Beer,
I'm sure there are others too! If my memory is jogged
My uncle, Bernard Montague Jay, visited The Top House every day of his adult life.
My family emigrated to New Zealand, in 1962, from Aveley. When my sister and I visited our uncle Bern, in the 1980s, his wife, Hilda Jay (nee Pavitt) said “Don’t get upset if he goes to `The Top House’ for a drink, while you’re here, because he goes there, daily, and has done for his entire life.”

I moved to Aveley in June,1970. My family were living at 128 Teviot Avenue in the maisonettes across the road from Kenningtons infants. My teacher's name was Mrs Staines. I don't remember that much about Aveley because we moved away 13 months later when I was 5 years old. I returned to Teviot Avenue 47 years later, in 2018, but found that the flats, as I remember them, had gone. I went there to reminisce and take photos ...see more
Billy Benson here. I now live in Victoria Australia, but I grew up in Aveley and lived at 5 Crescent Walk. Loved the pictures of the local shops and the old town. My family moved to Australia in 1963. I have been back since on a few occassions. I remember Bushy Bit and my best friend was Michael Curtin who has now sadly apssed away.
