Hello. I came across this site yesterday quite by accident and was really taken away by all the memories. Here are mine - I was surprised by the names and everything else that came back to me. This is Mardyke School, South Ockendon
These houses are in Cherwell Grove, South Ockendon. The one on the right hand side of the semi with the white door and garage door was the doctor's surgery at some time during the 1960s.
This photo actually shows Stifford Road at the South Ockendon end. The road goes over the railway bridge in the distance and up to Ford Place. The houses on the right are Cherwell Grove. I was born in 1958 at no.144, which was the third one from the far end. I grew up there and my Mum lived there until about 2002. Years gone by she was the lollipop lady for the Mardyke school. I remember lovely neighbours in the block - the Webbs, Samuals, Rickards, Trobers, and Golledges.
Omg, I remember so many of you. I started at Love Lane in 1965 and left in 1970. I was friends with Susan Harvey, Carol Head, Jackie Kirk, Karen Harman, Barbara Cox, Lesley Davidson, Libby Campbell, June Tyler, Liz Knapp, Christine Havis, Sandra Glendenning; Janet Hobb, Deborah Daly (these are the few names I can remember). I remember the school well, I was there from 1966 - 1970. I remember all the Merediths, Miss Close, Miss Norman, Paddy Rice, Mr Mumford and Mr Johnson the head master. I would love to meet up with some of the people I went to the school with. If anyone is out there that went there in these years please contact me. I attended this school in 1958. My head mistress was Mrs Meredith. Its now a hotel and I must say it is very nice. I am looking for anyone who was at this school same time - my name was Carol Cook, I lived in Fourth Avenue, West Thurrock.
I remembered my family was the first Chinese family to live in Aveley High Street. This park I used to come to a lot with my parents and sisters/brother. This slide - I remember when I first slid down on it, my sister put out her arm at the bottom and I was sooo scared that I jumped off from mid way! It's the highest slide (for children anyway) I've ever slide off! Happy Memories.
I arrived in Aveley in 1957/58 I was herdsman at Bretts Farm, Romford Road and worked for David Watt. Once a year we would take the young cattle through Belhus Park then along Daglen Drive, up Stifford Road to Ford Place, then on to Davey Down's farm for the summer months. My grandparents, Arthur Andrew Rush & Lilian Maud Rush 9nee Sayers0 had this pub, The Ship Inn, from 1940 -1955. They had two daughters, my Mother, Lilian Beatrice Gough (nee Rush) & Gladys Barker (nee Rush). At the start of WWII, after being bombed out of our home in Romford Essex, I was evacuated to paternal grandparents in Drogheda & Caherviveen, Eire. In 1943 I returned to Aveley, ...see more
