Bocm Mill &Granary
A Memory of Avonmouth.
Hi.The BOCM in Avonmouth was the first shift work job I had.I was a packer in the P&P (Pig and Poultry) filling 56lb bags and sending them up conveyors to the granary which was a 7 floor wooden building in line with 3 different mills. The conveyors from the mills sent all the different products of animal feed (70lb bags for cattle feed).
After a year or so transferred to the granary to become a loader which meant loading lorries and rail trucks with the same bags sent from the mills. There were spiral shoots running from the 7th floor to the different loading bays and the drivers loaded their lorries. In later years the feed went to pallets or bulk. I worked there from 1969 to 79.
