More about this scene
The 'gateway' to the High Street at the Exchange Street junction has changed. The Chandos Arms and the shops beyond are now 1970s offices, and on the right side of the road is Hampden House, a stylish but incongruous office block with shops on the ground floor. St Joseph's Catholic Church is further up on the left, and Marks & Spencer's can be seen in the distance. Exchange Street was subsequently turned into a dual carriageway: the photographer stands where there is now a large roundabout.
