Balham London

Was the pet store mentioned on the corner of Rossiter Road and Balham Hill? If so I remember it well, and added to that the egg stall was in Hildreth Street Market. I lived in Rossiter Road 1945 - 1961, and walked past the pet shop every day.

Yes thats right it was called allens pets my auntie pat ran the store and my grandfather george also owned the egg stall which my father alfred ran til 1971 and beleive my grandfathers other grandson took over he too was deaf

I lived in Rossiter Road from 1952 to 1963. I used to love popping into the pet shop on the corner to see the pets. We used to buy supplies there for our budgie.

I have very fond memories of the pet shop and also of the egg stall along with your family. I lived with my family on fernlea road - my parents owned the cafe opposite the Bedford pub from 1963. I believe that your family also had a grocer shop opposite the pet shop where the current Sainsbury’s car park is. It was also called Allen’s as I recall. Mary Allen would come for breakfast at the cafe and I would often sit with her while she ate (I was very little and adored her and we would just chat). Forgotten your cousins name but he was a younger than me but recall him having the egg stall next to a grocery stall in the market. Our family name is stylianou and we are Cypriot and my mum still lives on fernlea road.
