Flights Pool
A Memory of Baltonsborough.
The picture of the pool on the River Brue took me right back to the '70's. I often used to go fishing there with school & other friends, if we could get a lift. I remember first going with a schoolmate & near neighbour called Craig Holmes & his dad, who was a warder at the HMP Shepton Mallet. We would go down in his Morris 1100. If it was a hot day we'd go swimming in the pool & probably scare all the fish for miles away! We used to catch loads of Gudgeon. These little blighters used to grab the bait intended for bigger fish, but we'd sometimes get Chub, Dace & Roach if we were lucky.
Later on I'd go with a couple of friends who worked on their fathers' farm, & had use of his Skoda car.& another old schoolmate. By that time it was more about drinking the Colt 45 & bottles of Guinness we kept cool in the keep-net & talking about girls we liked than fishing.
But all my decent fishing tackle got stolen from the car by an opportunist thief when were were parked up & having a look at some other swims on the Brue. I gave up fishing after that.
