More about this scene

War Office Road joins Norden Road here. The manor of Bamford was owned by the de Bamford family from the 13th century until 1816, when it was sold to Joseph Fenton of Crimble. Some say the area known as War Office received its name during the Civil War, when Cromwell paid off 1,200 troops who had been held in reserve.
