Caption for Bampton, White Horse Hotel c1950: This was once an important stopping place on the main road from Taunton to the north Devon area; now, a new road further south has removed much of the traffic from this place. The pub has lost its porch and the horse above it, but the early 14th-century tower of St Michael's still stands over the town.

This view is exactly the same as the hotel now looks in 2008 - although sadly the landlord, Robin, died just this year.
