Barnoldswick, The Locks c.1955

More about this scene
The Leeds & Liverpool Canal climbs out of Yorkshire into the Pennines. After these three locks at Greenberfield, there is a short summit and a tunnel before the canal descends into Lancashire. Beyond the house is the site of a three lock staircase. This was built when the canal was opened; the present locks replaced them in an effort to speed up passage.
