More about this scene
Many ships have been constructed in Barrow. This crane is still in use, and can be seen from many parts of the town. Here, it is being used in the fitting out of the Oronsay in Buccleuch Dock. Both commercial and naval vessels have been built in the town, and latterly submarines have been constructed under cover in Devonshire Dock Hall.
