Barry, Watchtower Bay 1899

More about this scene
On the opening of the Barry lifeboat station at the entrance to Barry Docks, the watchtowe (built in 1865 when the population of Barry was fewer than 100) ceased to be used - it later became the first tea-room opened by the Luen family. The slipway for the launching of rowing lifeboats was blocked up and moved to the land-facing side; the small arched window marks where the old exit emerged. The building behind is the old rocket shed, which contained breeches buoys, lines, and the rockets which fired them.
