St Catherine's School, Barton.

A Memory of Barton Upon Irwell.

I went to St Catherine's from about the age of 7 in 1958 along with my siblings. Some of my best friends were Sandra Humphries, who wanted to be a pop singer and I remember she had a great voice, Gillian Andrews, she also had a big brother at the school called Christopher and Lynn Wilkinson, her parents owned the sweet shop just over the bridge. The head teacher was called Mrs Willey, she taught the infants and the teacher for the juniors was Miss Leech. We also had a dinner lady called Mrs Wright. I have fond memories of being at St Catherine's although I can't remember doing any sort academic work.

We lived down Barton Road at Primrose Terrace.

I too was at 'St.Cath's' at that time so I must know you. Gillian was my sister and Christopher my brother. I also had another sister, Jennifer. She wasn't at the school long, moving on to Winton after a year or so. I knew Sandra and Lynn very well at the time, but lost contact over the years, although I did see Lynn from time to time in later years. The school couldn't manage without me and closed when I moved on to Winton (lol). Other families were the Storey's, John, Janette, (is that you?) Catherine and Jerry, Sheila Hipwell, Christopher Eccleston and Peter and Anne Wilson. It would be nice if you could get in touch or leave a message here.

I came across this website quite by accident and was amazed as I too attended St Catherines at Barton from 1948 until 1954 and also lived at 2 Primrose Terrace on Barton Road and would love to get in touch with anyone who might remember me. My name is John Mason and both my sister, Shirley, and my brother, David, attended St Cats.

I attended St catherines also my brother.remember the sweet shop well.also remember Sandra humpries did she have brother Graham. I lived in higher croft other side of the canal.I left in 1956 but like you good memories,did not learn much though.

Hi I attended St Catherine's 1953 to 1958. My best friend was Lynn Clark, I do remember John Mason and Denise Humphries. First I lived in Redcliffe Road and then Barton Lane. Albert Ribchester was the caretakers son. He took our dog in 1958 when we left for Australia. Happy memories of Mrs Willie and Mrs Wright also Miss Humphries and the hollow where we used to play. Hi, I attended St Catherine's from 1951-1957 as did my 2 sister's Jean, Sandra Wood, I am Julia Wood, I remember Kenny and Albert Walker, Shirley Mason, and Graham and Denise Humphties, I lived on Peel Green Rd, near Higher Croft, would love to hear from any of them , so Many good memories x

Hi Julie yes remember you and your sister well.I am living in clifton swinton.my brother albert is still going plus my older sister beryl.must be get older but it semi like only yesterday remembering all the good times .would love to hear from you or any other old school mates.still got a few photos of everyone.
