A Memory of Basildon.

Mr. Whippy ice cream factory in cranes farm road. Before this road was build we used to go up Whitmore way turn left at church road and come out at York Shipley or walk across the jolly friar to get the bus.. who remembers ??. A 18 I got the job as barman at the LAINDON HOTEL, worked there for a year enjoyed it very much . Everyone was very friendly. who remember the laindon hotel?

If you went down Church Rd. to get to York Shipley you must have gone past Holy Cross church. Do you remember when a woman said she saw a ghost there, and for a while after all us local kids hung around there, to see the ghost? That would have been about 1960 (ish). I went to Woodlands Boys, (Woodlands was not a mixed sex school at that time) from 1960.
Later, I also worked in a pub, the Double Six, on Whitmore Way, and for a while at the Joker, in Laindon.
I still live in the area, in Billericay.
