Taken from near the Wells Road above the south bank of the River Avon, this is an archive view, for much was destroyed in the Baedeker and other bombing raids during World War II. The Abbey on the left and the spire of St John the Baptist Church act as reference points; the latter was severely bomb-damaged in 1942.
