More about this scene
This wonderful pediment from the temple of Sul Minerva contains the famous Gorgon's Head. It has Celtic and Roman features, and is part of a sculptured shield. Today its total meaning is not clear, since the head, though closely similar to the female Gorgon, is male with flowing hair, blazing eyes and has similarities with the sea gods Oceanus and Neptune.
