Ivys Shop. Winstanley Rd. Battersea

A Memory of Battersea.

The shop refered to as that of Ivy and Bill Humphreys in Winstanley Road. Ivy was in fact my Aunt Maud. She was married to Bill Humphreys. The shop was called 'Ivys' because it was inherited from Maud's first husband Mr. Ivy. ( deceased). Maud's daughter is alive and well.

Maud's daughter, Doreen, my mum, passed away last Thursday, 6 February 2020. My sister, Karen, and I are devastated. My mum's real dad was James Ivey, married to Maud. James died of a "seisure" when he was just 33 years of age. My nanny Maud remarried William Humphreys (Bill, or Billy, as he was also known) and they had my uncle Victor, who unfortunately died ten years ago. My nanny Maud died in the 1980's. Jacqueline (Doreen's daughter)
I'm sorry to hear that your mum passed away. I remember her as a beautiful blonde, always fashionably dressed and made up. I was about 9 or 10 at the time I think. My sister is 7years older than me and was about Victor's age. I only remember Billy Humphreys not Maude's first husband. I think Victor was Billy's son but Doreen was his step daughter. My mum did most of her shopping there as she was great friends with Maude. She always said that she never let her go without tea during the war. I was born in January 49 and lived with my nan, parents and sister Shelia at 52, Meyrick Road. Our surname was Mudle.
