The Good Old Days
A Memory of Beaumaris.
My grandmother lived in Rose Hill, and was brought up in Siop Penlon, now a dreadful looking Chinese take away.I loved Beaumaris as it used to be,the pier, cafe ,and fishing at the end of the pier, . the old swimming pool with the wooden changing huts painted silver.where such characters as" Huw Clock " kept an eye on things. They should have been a listed building so that the council could not get their destroying hands on them. How things have changed, the pier devoid of the old charm and character with no cafe at the end just a smelly shelter, the swimming baths an absolute disgrace,at least the paddling pool is still there. The council seem to be bent on destroying the town, even the Green is now a massive car park.they even charge for using the public toilets as well. They are also quick to slap a parking ticket on your car,and the latest insult, building a higher wall from Gallows Point into town and obscuring what was a lovely view of the Straits. How stupid is that?At least I have fond memories of what for me was the perfect town 50 years ago.
