Nostalgic memories of Bebington's local history

Share your own memories of Bebington and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I went to this school between 1968-1970 The Headmistress at that time was Mrs Hargreaves and the teacher that sticks out in my memory most is Miss Evans. My mum was the lollipop lady outside the school from 1968 until 1978 I think. Lovely school.
Cotterals Bike Shop is on the right. Mum bought bikes for all the family and herself here. Mr Cotteral would sell you a brand new bike on "Tick" if he new you or your family. Great guy. Mum would have a cuppa and a chin wag with him when we called in to pay. Thatched cottage further up on the right . Fawcetts the chemist on the left Tappleys the stationers the last shop on the top of the hill on the left. school Dentist was across the road from it . Shock horror

I was born in Birkenhead and moved with mum and dad to Northern Ireland when I was about 6. My mum and dad's family lived in Birkenhead, Bebington and Bromborough. I was at my Nana's in Birkenhead and later Bebington for summer holidays. I think I was around 6 or 7 when I went by coach to visit my grandmother in Bebington. My mother was Beryl (Betty) Mottershead, and going by her birth certificate she was born in 1923 at 20 Easton Road, Bebington to a William and Edith Mottershead, who died when she was very young. I don't think she had any brothers or sisters but I think there are a few relations of mine out there, as I can remember some ...see more
I went to St Andrews school in the 80's in Townfield Lane. We were often taken here to see the writing on the back of the church wall where children years before had written their names. The original school was attached to the church I think. I was also married here in 2004.
How lovely to see the wall on the other side of the road. Now there is open space in front of the library.
I remember this wall and steps, I was only 4-5 years old at the time. This wall is of No 47 The Village in Bebington, next door to the Rose and Crown opposite the bottom of Heath Road where there is now a roundabout. It was a very big house and had a massive garden, but was demolished some 25 years later and I remember some of the names of people who used to live and visit. I went to the old St Andrews School which ...see more
