More about this scene
This popular pub for local jockeys and trainers from the nearby stables has changed little, apart from the spelling, which is now 'Waggon'. The author remembers eating there in the 1970s, enjoying the mystery dish on the menu called 'Pig in the Poke'. The petrol station opposite, once owned by Frank C Harcombe, according to Kelly's Directory of Wiltshire 1939, is now a parking area.
