Bedford, Bunyan's Statue 1898

More about this scene
This statue of one of Bedforshire's famous sons was made by the noted sculptor, Boehm, in 1873, and presented to the town by the then Duke of Bedford in June 1874. This is ironic in a way, for Bunyan, the author of 'Pilgrim's Progress', had been a thorn in the flesh of the establishment in the 17th century, and was more likely to have been cast into prison by the Duke's ancestors than otherwise.
