Bedford, The River Ouse And Town Bridge c.1960

More about this scene
This view gives more of a modern feel. The buildings on Vines Corner to the left of the bridge have gone, while Swan House to the left of Holland's dignified Swan Hotel replaced the house and shops seen in photograph number B511054; they were demolished in 1960 to make way for the present building. The demolition of Vines Corner opened up St Paul's Square by destroying a key element of its south side.
