More about this scene
This pleasant, tucked-away village, three miles from Cranbrook, is open and scattered in structure, like others in this part of Kent. It was once noted for cloth manufacture. It is now best known for its Chest Hospital, which was founded in 1905 to look after Post Office workers suffering from tuberculosis. A beacon stood nearby during the civil wars, forming part of a line of communication between?Kent and London.
