Memories Of Plas Y Nant

A Memory of Betws Garmon.

The Methodist Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) had a big annual rally in London for many years. There was a tradition to throw pom-poms with your name and address attached to create pen friends. At one such weekend I connected with a lad called John Smith from County Durham. While I was a student at Birmingham Polytechnic, he picked me up and took me to Plas y Nant for two weekends away during the autumn of 1987. I remember really enjoying the friendship and fellowship while we were there. He went on to marry and we lost touch. During a clear out I found a carol sheet which triggered a search to find out more about the place.

I and a group of us came here first in 1966 with Rev. Ken D Beardsley, we had such a memerable time we visited a few times after this. Aunty Lena was held with much affection ran a very smooth operation more like a family home.
