Bexhill's ancient manor house was a retreat for the Bishops of Chichester in the Middle Ages, before passing into the ownership of several notable English families such as the Dorsets and Brooks. At the time this photograph was taken it was in the possession of Viscount Cantelupe, heir to the Earldom of De La Warr.
