Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

A Memory of Bexleyheath.

Ah, Dolcis' shoe shop where most shoes cost 49shillings and eleven pence.

I was born in Woolwich Road then moved to Pelham Road and worked at Hides in 1958, Then at Wheeler's Library where my boss was a little old lady who always dressed in black and reminded me of Queen Victoria. She would eat calves foot jelly for her health, and the phone had a daffodil shaped talking piece.

I went to school at Townley Road. Bexley County Technical school for Girls (after spending the first year at Wilmington Manor). Miss Collins OBE was the Head Mistress.

Hi. Pleased to read your memories, I may not have met you, but must have crossed paths. I too started work in 1958. Have great memories of Bexleyheath. Dressed the windows at 'John Colliers' just down from Hides, visited the silver lounge, banked @ Barclays, took girls to the 'Regal' had guitar lessons in the music shop near the clock tower. Hi Peter, Yes I used to go to the Silver Lounge on Saturdays and meet up with the boys and girls. Drinking frothy coffee trying to finish a knickerbocker glory. Went to the youth club in Crayford run by Miss T where we used to jive the night away

Thanks for your reply! They were good days. I worked in 1959-60 in the men's wear dept of the Co- op store in Welling. Did you ever visit ? Past my motor cycle test in Pickford Lane, Examiner said he would step out in front of me at some stage for the emergency stop, rode around the route he gave me for ages, did'nt see him anywhere, so went back to the centre, where they informed me that he had stepped out in front another motorcycle, and got run down, and that he was on his way to hospital. I did eventually pass my test ! Thank goodness we still have our memories! Best wishes. Cheers. 🍷Peter.

That was funny Peter, what a silly man. I don't remember a Co-op store in Welling though I used to visit the one in Bexleyheath. One time I went there to buy some tape for my mother and then I had to go across the road to get some buns from the baker, I think it was Goodfares, anyway when I came out I realised that I hadn't changed the paper check in the coop for the tin coins so I went to cross back and got knocked down by a car and landed up in the cottage hospital.
