Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

My Family In Old Bilston.

A Memory of Bilston.

My maternal grandfather, Thomas Mottram, owned The Hop Pole pub on Market Street - sold it in 1924. My paternal great grandfather, A E Webb, started a haulage company, centred at a house called Mendham, on Wolverhampton Street, which became Webb Bros. Any body remember these? My Aunt, Hilda Mottram was a primary school headmistress - not sure which one.

My aunt and uncle lived a few doors away from Mrs Webb.Their name was Pursehouse.Their address was Marsac Wolverhampton Street.
The name Miss Mottram frequently came up in conversations but I just can’t remember where she taught.My mother taught in several Bilston schools but mainly at Stonefield Junior school. I attended Stonefield until 1949 when I went to Bilston Girls’ High school.My family name was Rowley and you may also remember another branch of my family,the Naylor’s,also of Wolverhampton Street. When I attended Bilston Girls High School in 72 the Headteacher was Miss Mottram . Hester . She was there until it became mixed 6 form college in 77 then went on to be head at Wolverhampton girls high
There was a girl in my class called Lynn Rowley . Tall, strikingly attractive with black hair and blue eyes . Any relation?

I remember my dad mentioning the name Pursehouse - a school friend or playmate? The Mrs Webb you remember would've been Ginny (nee Clarke, my dad's stepmom. I remember my Aunt Hilda taught at Stoneyfield - I have the handbell she rang at break! And Rowley is a name in my family, too - Anne Rowley-Tarlington married my maternal great-grandfather about 1850 - she was from Dudley and her mom's name was Rowley by her first marriage, then Tarlington by her second. I think that's right. My great-grandpa had just arrived from Bakewell, a blacksmith who did pretty well in Bilston and b built a place called Clarence House.
