More about this scene
Castle Gardens were laid out in 1905 on part of the old town. The cenotaph, engraved with the names of the 200 who died in the Great War, was unveiled on 3 April 1921, and the first memorial service took place there on 11 November 1922. The photograph was taken from the Mound, the site of the original Waytemore Castle, which was given by William the Conqueror to Maurice, Bishop of London.
