More about this scene
The sunny summers of the 1950s filled this pool, which had excellent amenities – a café, changing rooms, diving boards, and sunbathing and spectator areas. The town was famous for its baths from early days. The Prince of Wales Baths on the Promenade had been described as 'the finest in the United Kingdom'; the great plunge bath was 107 feet long. The Derby Baths were of Olympic standard. Some were supplied with seawater, and galas were held.
