My Great Grandfather Mother And Father's Link

A Memory of Blaenllechau.

My parents often told me this story.
My Great Grandfather was John Roberts. His son, my father, Thomas Glyndwr Roberts and my mother Myra Roberts (Evans) as young children were playing on the swings in Blaen Park.
My father was pushing Myra on the swings and she asked him to stop as he was pushing her too high. He said I'll only stop if you say you'll marry me.
She finally agreed and he let her off.
It was some years later they met again and they recognised each other and, yes, they married and were happily together until my mothers passing in 1992.

Shortly afterwards I was speaking to a cousin Pauline Ingham who had written a book about Blaenllehau Infants School. In the book there is a section about Blaenllechau and it told how my Great Grandfather John Roberts had been part of the committee and had held weekly meeting at my Grand Fathers House in 24 Mountain Row.
Little did he know the his son would propose to his Daughter-in -law in the very park he helped create.
