More about this scene
At 4,162ft from end to end, the Severn Railway Bridge was the longest bridge in England when it opened. The bridge boosted the local economy by enabling coal from the Forest of Dean to be transported across to Sharpness, from where it was shipped inland up the canal to Gloucester and the Midlands, or exported by sea via the Bristol Channel.
