I remember that, I was doing my paper round, knee deep in snow , heard such a noise only to see the end of the pier disappearing in to the sea, I also remember the sea was frozen in parts Diana shilton (nee west)

I came down to Bognor with my family for a three week holiday every summer in the late 50s early 60s, first from Redhill and then from Godalming, Surrey It was mostly on the train, and the last time we came it was in our new car in 1964, before we forsook the Sussex coast for North Devon. I remember staying at the Uplands Hotel for 2 weeks about 1956 or 57. I'm pretty sure it was in Clarence Road and run by a Mr and Mrs Spickernel,( not sure about that spelling ). I was 12 years old and had a great time. I am the daughter of Charles and Joyce Munday, both deceased; my two sisters and I grew up with the caravan park as our playground. Dad grew sunflowers all along the front of Monday's caravan park and we also owned the Green Topper Cafe just across from the caravans. I was born in Sudley Road in 1941 and I went to Villa Maria Catholic School... wonderful memories.
